Beyond the Calendar: Eliminating Research Friction with FluentProtocols

Every scientist knows the feeling: you have a clear plan for your experiment, but the logistics of the lab seem determined to slow you down. This is not just "admin work", it is Research Friction. At the end of the day, it is not the research that is tiring you down, it is the cumulative weight of all the small, logistical hurdles that stand between a researcher and their data.

The "Multi-Calendar" Challenge

Consider a standard workflow that involves a centrifuge, a thermal cycler, and a plate reader. In most laboratories today, those three machines represent three different logistical battles.

To run one experiment, you must:

  • Open the calendar for Equipment A and find a slot.
  • Cross-reference it with the calendar for Equipment B, hoping there is a window that fits your incubation time.
  • Check Equipment C, only to realize it is booked during your final step, forcing you to move the schedule for your entire day.

By the time you have actually planned the plan, you have navigated three different interfaces, sent multiple emails to colleagues, and wasted thirty minutes of peak focus time. This is the definition of Research Friction: the system is forcing the scientist to act like a logistics coordinator rather than a researcher.

Do you wish there was an easy way to schedule all equipment at once and clearly see when you have to be in the lab in your calendar?

The Solution: FluentProtocols

At LabFluent, we believe you should not have to book machines; you should be able to book experiments.

We created FluentProtocols to eliminate this friction entirely. Instead of treating your equipment as isolated assets, FluentProtocols treats them as a synchronized sequence.

How it works:

  • Template-Based Scheduling: You define your multi-step protocol once. Tell the system you need a ten-minute spin, followed by a two-hour incubation, followed by a reading.
  • Unified Orchestration: Instead of visiting three different calendars, you select "Schedule" on your template. The LabFluent engine looks at the entire laboratory ecosystem simultaneously.
  • One-Click Booking: The system identifies a window where all required assets are available in the correct sequence. With a single click, every booking is secured.

How to Create FluentProtocols

Tired of checking four different calendars just to run one PCR? Let us build a FluentProtocol together. Once you create this template, you will never have to book these machines individually again. In just a few clicks, you can orchestrate your entire morning and reclaim your focus for the science.

Follow these steps to build your first automated workflow:

Step 1: Build Your Template

Navigate to the FluentProtocols tab and click "Create FluentProtocol." Give your protocol a name, such as "PCR workflow".

Step 2: Add Protocol Steps

Add the protocol step by giving the step a title. Use "duration" to assign the time for your hands-on work. Attach equipment to your step by selecting an equipment. If you have incubation or cool down time, set it either using the "wait time" or simply drag the steps in the calendar.

Step 3: Save as a FluentProtocol

Click "Save". Your multi-step experiment is now stored in your library, ready to be deployed whenever you need it.

Step 4: Schedule a FluentProtocol

Click on "Schedule protocol" and or on your calendar to enjoy the convenience of using FluentProtocols!

Less Logistics, More Science

By moving from fragmented calendars to integrated templates, FluentProtocols removes the logistical noise that drains scientific momentum. It ensures that the human factor in the laboratory is supported by a system that understands the flow of an experiment, not just the availability of a machine.

Our goal is simple: to make the laboratory experience as "fluent" as the science itself. By eliminating research friction, we give you back the one thing you cannot replicate in a laboratory: your time.
